Make or Miss Podcast #25: Rating the Early Free Agents

Make or Miss Podcast #25: Rating the Early Free Agents![]() Apologies for lateness of this, but Rob and I recorded a pod last week talking the earliest free agency signings. Audio and download after the jump as well as a link dump of my recent writings.

Make or Miss Podcast #24: Finals, Love, World Cup (with draft bonus)![]() Long time, no see, hear or read. Along with everyone else, I took a little time to decompress from the NBA finals, as well as throw myself into the World Cup. But good news, WOH is back with a brand new invention. Or really, just a new podcast with Rob, where we spend 90 minutes, first talking about the rumored Kevin Love deals with Golden State, (I get my Klay Thompson hate ON), break down the Spurs victory in the finals, before finishing up with some World Cup talk. We recorded pre-draft and pre USA NUMBER 1's winning-by-losing effort against Germany, so that's why it might sound dated. Make or Miss Podcast #18: 1st Round Wrap; 2nd Round Preview![]() A day late in getting this out, but Rob and I recorded our 2nd round preview Sunday night (as should be clear when I say foolish things about the Clippers potentially no-showing Game 1. Oops.) This podcast is literally earth-shaking as we unintentionally recap the first round before moving on to the games still to come. Obviously, we recorded before today's news that Mark Jackson is out in Golden State. Audio & download after the jump. Make or Miss Podcast #16: Round 1, Two Games Down![]() Better late than never, Rob and I recorded a podcast before the start of any Game 3's on Thursday. We look far less silly, as we suggested neither Houston-Portland or Chicago-Washington were close to over. In particular, a possible Nene suspension could be a HUGE swing in that series. Indiana though...at a certain point I'm going to have to accept that Pre-ASB Pacers are dead and gone and not coming back. Audio and download after the jump: Wizards Underwhelming Pick-and-Roll Attack![]() Yesterday, I looked in depth at some of the cleverness that makes San Antonio so deadly in their half court execution. Today, I want to give the same treatment to the Wizards. It seems slightly churlish to be critical - they did just have an enormous Game 1 victory over Chicago. But, I don't think it was their offensive execution which paved the way: Nene made a lot of midrange shots - 7/12 from areas where he shot 43.4 % during the regular season, and the Chicago offense (like the Chicago offense does) sputtered. Make or Miss Podcast #10: Team Scal![]() As we march towards the playoffs, Rob and I took on the Hot Topics of the week, first with a little bit about the last few playoff spots, including Portland and Atlanta's late season, injury-aided swoons, whether Dallas could hang on to make it or if the Suns could come out on top of that race. We then moved to a discussion of the rather bizarre intra-coaching staff feud in Golden State which saw Brian Scalabrine demoted to the D-League. Make Or Miss Podcast: Playoff Races & Covering The Right Places![]() In this week's addition of the Make or Miss Podcast, bear with my scratchy throat, our usual peripatetic natures, and maybe even a dose of HotTakes as Rob and I discuss the perception versus reality of the NBA's national TV product before talking some Eastern and Western Conference playoff races, with some focus on the Hawks, Mavs and Suns. Make or Miss Podcast #6: Breaking Down Deadline Day Deals![]() Up until the Danny Granger for Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen swap, we didn't think there was going to be enough to talk about to do a full podcast on just the trade deadline. But even without that, we still managed to talk, and talk...and talk. We give our thoughts on the deadline in general and say a few words about each trade in turn. Short version, big winners for moves they made were Golden State and Washington for shoring up the backup PG slot with Steve Blake and Andre Miller respectively. I also like what Milwaukee did, if for no other reason that it indicates that they are going to see where the Nate Wolters train takes them. (Hint: good places). I also think Miami was a de facto winner both by virtue of opening up a slot for a buyout guy themselves, Oklahoma City not making a move and Indiana making a move I think hurts the Pacers. Make or Miss Podcast #1: All-Star Reserves![]() Rob and I ended up not having time to talk about it like we planned last week, so we spent the whole time this week (and then some) talking about our picks for the All-Star reserve squads. I have an epic brainfart in considering Eastern Conference candidates in Part 1, but I have my revenge in Part 2, oh yes I do. Interested to hear thoughts on our 7 and 8-man selections for the respective conferences. Also, not only do we have a name for the pod, the Make or Miss Podcast (explanation within), but some extremely appropriate bumper music as I'm sure you'll agree, after the jump. Podcast: Guys Who Should Play More![]() In this edition, Rob and I spend about twice as long as we thought we would talking about one topic: guys around the league who should play more. Both of us tend to focus on the same type of player - the promising young player stuck behind a below average veteran on a team going nowhere. But Rob especially has some wild cards to discuss. There's a little audio glitch about 25 minutes in but I think we stitched it together. Pod and downloadable file after the jump. |
